AMÉLIA AND ALZIRA

The friends Alzira and Amelia work together making Irish lace pieces at Divina Pastora in the state of Sergipe, Brazil. Their stories were aligned from the appreciation for the beauty and tradition of this craft. Amelia learned it when she was nine how to produce lace, Alzira learned from her aunt Ercilia. This technique came to town from Irish missionaries who taught the spell to three women, including Alzira's aunt. Her aunt passed on the knowledge to her family and then trained several women in the city, so Alzira also followed in her footsteps, becoming a master of this type of handicraft at Divina Pastora.
