Guto Carassa

Invited to participate in the Arte Brasil - A Look project, José Augusto Carassa, better known as “Guto”, is a member of a family of sculptors from the small town of Prados, in the interior of Minas Gerais. A sculptor for over 20 years, Guto has created pieces of various shapes and sizes, although he has been especially well known for the giant lion and lioness that he produces on wood with exquisite care in finishing. Those who visit the small town of Prados, in the interior of Minas Gerais, can not miss the lions and giant lionesses carved in cedar by brothers Guto and Tiago Carassa. The sculptors were invited to participate in this project. From photographs of the pieces, Lisi Wendel and Tales Morigi have produced a series of paintings and canvases that seek to capture the essence of these works. Part of the amount collected from the sales of these paintings will be reverted to Tiago with the objective of encouraging Brazilian artistic production.
